Is this not an easy question?

i wanted my jw friend's perspective on something, so i asked them this question:.

if i read a passage of scripture and conclude about it something that opposes the wt's view of the same passage, in your mind who has the truth about that passage (i.e.

Whatever year it is that Judgment Day begins, we might reasonably conclude that each creative day was 7,036 years or 7,047 years in length, as the case may be, as we human beings reckon time, but what we do know to be true is that the end of this system of things is near, and our faith is that we need to 'prove ourselves ready, because at an hour that we do not think to be it, the Son of man is coming.' (Matthew 24:44)

So considering this statement of yours am I to conclude bearing in mind that JW still teach the end is very close that the creative days are still believed to be about 7000 years in length?

(I don't believe I hijacked anyones thread (I apologise if I did) I was merely responding to a point you made in the thread before I went on with another one which both were related to the thread. You are the one that responded to my question on this one. You could have given me an answer on the previous thread and we could have moved on.)

Thank you for responding on a different thread to my question.

I feel maybe you misunderstood what I was saying.

I have no idea how long the creative days were. The Witnesses taught me they were 7000 years long. Now it seems they don't believe this anymore.

They still claim that the 7th day started after Adam's creation in 4026. They claimed this was the start of the 7th creative day. They also claim that we are living very close to the end of this system of things and that Christ's reign of a thousand years will follow immediately after then the 7th creative day will end when Jesus hands back everything to his father. Am I wrong?

So I assume that this is around 7000 years in length. Maybe this is a different day than all the rest? Admittedly it is hard to keep up with what is truth and what isn't in what JW's believe.

My question

Are you suggesting we may have thousands of years to go until the end (Armageddon)?

I hardly know no better way to answer his question that to quote Jesus' words at Matthew 24:36: "Concerning that day and hour nobody knows, neither the angels of the heavens nor the Son, but only the Father."

Unyet JW have preached for so many years that it would come within the lifetime of one generation of people who were alive and old enough to see the events of 1914. Maybe they didnt read that scripture.

ok i'm sure this has been talked to death... but since we have a thread saying we're missing a good debate here we go..... when the bible meant something to me way back when .....even then i pondered.... god starts off as this vengeful being..."listen to me or i'll lay your soul to waste".

to his enemies ....keep your distance or you will feel the wrath of yahweh or if i want what you have ....best leave now unless any of you men wanna die.

then overnight.. he is patient, loving, kind, his son says love they neighbor.

but, by all means jump in and have a say.. .

i think more and more we are losing our grasp on a wonderful venue at jw-net.. as a discussion board, i mean.. at one time, there were a great many wonderful and interesting discussions by a variety of persons with varied backgrounds having a good.

What drove you? Love or Fear?

this has probably been discussed here before, but i'm new so sue me.. i think the religion of jehovah's witnesses has been an amazing but tragic social experiment proving that the mind is most vulnerable to brainwashing when it's in an unhealthy state.

it seems to attract the bipolar, schizophrenic, depressive, and the paranoid.

it preys on negative emotions like sorrow and fear.

I was raised as a witness. When I left home I had the opportunity to leave the Witnesses but I didn't. I felt I loved God although I didn't particularly love the organization. The field service and meetings and assemblies. I felt my service should be from the heart, what I wanted to give. If that meant 1 hour in ten years in field service that was for me to decide not the organization. They shouldn't try to pressure me into showing my love for God by performing to certain levels.

When I left I felt I couldn't serve God by going to the hall anymore and so it was my love for God that I left.

the fact that today we do not have a vast water canopy suspended high up in space and all around our globe and thus blocking direct sunlight, moonlight and starlight is because jehovah saw what was going on down here upon his terrestrial footstool and took action.

I didn't understand what you mean, may be you could elaborate on this.

I had always understood that the creative days are the same length. (As days are the same length)

The WT pubications showed Adam's creation to be 4026 and stated that this was the year the 7th creative day started. They also stated when the half way, the morning of the seventh creative day, was reached some 3500 years later (I think I mentioned this to you before) Which would make a 7000 year creative day.

The WT has taught that the end and the thousand year reign of Christ would take place before the close of the 7th creative day.

Are you suggesting we may have thousands of years to go until the end (Armageddon)? Or are you saying that the days may have been of different lengths? Or that we cannot use Bible chronology to say Adam was created in 4026. (There used to be a public talk, my father frequently gave about how to count the time back to Adam, didn't sound like speculation more like evidence.)

Do your elders care at all?

i currently have an elder body who, for the most part, seems utterly complacent and disinterested in actually "shepherding" anything.

i can't tell if they are lazy or just oblivious to their responsiblities of being "teachers".

it seems like they are the last to know anything and always procrastinate on everything.

I always think that they don't have to be Elders. So if they are stressed and over burdened they can resign. If not they are responsible for not doing their job.

They only seemed to care that they were Elders.
